Perfect blue-skies with an outgoing breeze helping the batters was the setting for this year's 4-team high school baseball tournament at the new Brendan Grant Memorial Field. Held on May 24th & 25th 2024, this was the 20th overall tournament, but the 1st at the new Brendan Grant Memorial Field. Field stewardship has been a key ongoing support activity of the Foundation in the community. Specific efforts have been directed at improvement/maintenance of the Brendan Grant Memorial Baseball Field (the Belmont High School Varsity Field) and Belmont’s baseball and softball fields.
BGF’s keystone endeavor was the completion of close to $1M in improvements to the varsity field starting in late 2001 and proceeding until its dedication in 2007. The Foundation has been the chief steward of the field since then, directly supporting ongoing maintenance. Each year, near the end of May, the Memorial Weekend Baseball Tournament is played at Brendan Grant Memorial Field on what participants have referred to as one of the jewels of the Middlesex League’s high school baseball fields.
The recent massive Belmont High School reconstruction project has caused the field to be relocated, and a five year construction effort has been wrapping-up in 2024. On the 7th of June 2022, the Belmont School Committee unanimously approved the re-naming of the new field as the "Brendan Grant Memorial Field". On the 11th of May 2024, the new baseball field was re-dedicated. The Foundation remains on standby to continue its stewardship role with the new re-located baseball field and facility.
Each year the Foundation awards scholarships to four graduating seniors from Belmont High School at the June Senior Assembly. The scholarships recognize outstanding student athletes who are members of the baseball, softball, wrestling and golf teams.
Golf Tournaments have been held most years since the Foundation was established. The following is a summary of golf tournaments sponsored by The Brendan Grant Foundation:
The Brendan Grant Wrestling Tournament is a one-day high school wrestling tournament held on the first Saturday of January each year at Belmont High School. The 2023 Tournament was another successful event on January 7th at the new Belmont High School.
This is an invitational tournament involving 16 teams from the New England region. Although this is not a BGF event, members of the Brendan Grant Foundation directly assist since it is in Brendan’s name.
This tournament was first held in January 1982 and was renamed in 2002 as a tribute to Brendan Grant who was a member of the wrestling team for four years and a senior captain in the 1999-2000 season.
“Brendan’s Home Run” was a 5K run/walk held each year on Father’s Day in Belmont. It ran for 18 years from 2002 through 2019, and gained a reputation as a competitive road race for some of the top runners in the New England region.
There is a great history with Brendan's Home Run 5K Race/Walk, and for almost two decades it was a mainstay for many on Father's Day.

The annual Brendan Grant Ski/Snowboard race was held at Tenney Mountain in Plymouth NH starting in 2002. The race continued through the 2006 season but ended when the Tenney Mountain ski area ceased its operations.
Starting in 2007, the Tenney Mountain Ski Team re-located to nearby Ragged Mountain, where they continued to use the Brendan Grant Foundation racing bibs. Today, if you ski at Ragged Mountain you'll notice all children in the ski school classes wear the Brendan Grant Foundation race bibs for easy identification.
