On Thursday, 28 June 2001, the day following Brendan's accident, a group of his closest friends hung four large street_display.jpg (74678 bytes) bed sheets on the Concord Avenue fence outside the Belmont Varsity Baseball Field where Brendan played his last game.  Colored markers were attached on strings for people to leave messages, and many did. The "banners", as they have come to be called, were seen in the news stories carried by the various media outlets. They were taken down on Saturday evening, 30 June 2001 as a dramatic lightning storm approached, and were given to the Grant family for safekeeping.
