Sunday, 29 September 2002: The Annual Cops/Kids Softball Game honored Brendan
Grant at the Belmont Softball Field on Concerd Ave., Belmont. The home run derby
trophy has been named in Brendan's honor, as he was the first to win it in 1999, and this
will be permanently on display in the lobby of the Belmont Police Station. This
year's 2002 winners were Belmont Police Officer Barry Ward, who was the overall winner,
and winning as the representive for Belmont High School was Ryan Harvey. This year's

Sunday, 15 September 2002: The 2nd Annual NFPA Golf Tournament was held on
behalf of The Brendan Grant Foundation at the Rockland Golf Course in Rockland, MA.
A cookout with prizes immediately followed the 18 holes of golf. Although the
forecast was for (possibly) heavy rain, it never appeared and a great day of golf was had
by all. It was a warm afternoon though never hot, and was a great day out on the
links. All proceeds from this event go to benefit the Brendan Grant Foundation.

Saturday, 17 August 2002: A special sportsmanship honor and ceremony was
held in recognition of Brendan Grant by Babe Ruth League, Inc at the conclusion of the
2002 Senior Babe Ruth 16-18 year old World Series at Cubeta Stadium in Stamford, CT.
This year's winners were Luke Prihoda from Weimar, Texas, and Ryan Mack from
Stamford, Connecticut. Click here

Thursday, 15 August 2002: The 9th Annual Oldtime Baseball Game was held at
St. Peters Field in North Cambridge, MA, and a wonderful evening was had by all who
attended. The weather was warm and humid, with no rain in sight. A special
banner with Brendan's retired high school number "1" was hung on the outfield
fence, next to a tribute for Ted Williams. It was another great event, with significant

Sunday, 16 June 2002:
"Brendan's Home RunTM"
5K Race & Walk was held in Belmont, MA,
and was a great success with 326 total participants, including 167 runners and 159
walkers. The Men's winning time was clinched by Jon Rosen at 16:21.5, and the
Women's bracket was won by Lauren Caputo at 20:35.0. Check the "Cool Running"
website for all the race results. This Father's Day race/walk began and ended
at the Belmont High School Track, with all proceeds go directly to the Brendan Grant

Friday, 7 June 2002:
The first annual Brendan Grant Scholarship was awarded at the Student Assembly at
Belmont High School in Belmont, MA. The recipient is Scott Masse, a graduating
Belmont High School Senior who will be attending Arizona State University in the fall of

Wednesday, 1 May 2002:
College level baseball came to Belmont, MA on Wednesday 1 May 2002, when American
International College (AIC) hosted Merrimack College at the Brendan Grant Memorial
Field. This non-conference game in the competitive Northeast-10 League was won by
Merrimack 15 to 12, and was a tribute to Brendan Grant, who this year would have been a
sophomore with the AIC baseball program. The event was a great success, with a great
crowd that enjoyed great baseball with a day of great weather.
Saturday, 16 March 2002: The Great
Pretenders Benefit Performance was held at the Boston Marriott Copley Place before a
sell-out crowd, with all proceeds going to The Brendan Grant Foundation. This was the 30th anniversary reunion of the Great
Pretenders, and the show also included a performance by the outstanding Hot Spot Cabaret.
Many Boston area natives have fantastic memories of the Great Pretenders, who for
many years have been one of the top shows in the region. The evening was a complete

Saturday, 5 January 2002: The First Annual Brendan Grant Wrestling
Tournament was held at Belmont High School on Saturday 5 January 2002. This year,
seventeen high school teams competed during this all day tournament. Previously
referred to as the Belmont Invitational Wrestling Tournament, this event has for the last
21 years been one of the premier High School Wrestling gatherings of its kind in the
Northeast region. During the 1999-2000 season, Brendan was one of the Captains
of the Belmont High School Wrestling Team.
2002 & On-going:
The renovations to the Brendan Grant Memorial Field are proceeding on
schedule. This effort is being funded by The Brendan Grant Foundation, and it is
being made possible by significant in-kind donations from a variety of supporters and
contributors to The Brendan Grant Foundation. Plans are for this work to be
completed in time for the start of the 2007 High School baseball season.
