14th ANNUAL
BRENDAN GRANT
GOLF TOURNAMENT

Held Sunday, 16 October 2016, in Plymouth, MA on behalf of The Brendan Grant Foundation

Plymouth, MA: Many  thanks to all who participated or were with us in spirit at this year’s golf tournament held on Sunday 16/October/2016 at Southers Marsh Golf Course. It was yet another great outing with sunny and dry October weather providing for a great day of golf.

This year’s tournament started on a somber note, with heartfelt recognition to Dave Tourigny Sr. who passed away suddenly just a few days earlier on 10 October 2016 at the age of 65 after a very brief illness. David organized the earlier Brendan Grant Golf Tournaments from 2001 through 2007. We will dearly miss Dave’s wonderful good will and positive spirit, and before starting the group collectively saluted his pverall contributions to making our world a better place.

Eight groups (of three or four) competed for a range of prizes. Trophies and prizes were awarded to this year's top foursome and second place foursome. This year the top spot was won by the foursome of Scott Brennan, Mike Potvin, Bob Sprowl, and Bob Winnett finishing 6 under par, and their names will be added to the "The Cedrone Cup”. The Cedrone Cup is named after Phyllis J. Cedrone, mother of Dawn Cedrone, the NFPA Health Club Director and a guiding hand in supporting all things relating to health and fitness. Phyllis was an accomplished golfer from Braintree MA who passed away in 1998 in her 56th year. Among her accolades, Phyllis was the BWGA Fourball Champion in 1979, 1980, & 1981, and BWGA Memorial Champion in 1984 & 1994.

Second place went to the foursome of Jay Bluestein, Lorraine Carli, Barry Perkins and Nancy Perkins finishing at 5 under par. In other contests, the closest to the pin female was Danielle Pargoli; closest to the pin male was Gary Keith; longest drive female was Lorraine Carli; and longest drive male was Bob Sprowl. Gift cards were provided for all of this winners.

The 18 holes of golf began at 1:00 pm sharp with a shotgun start. Southers Marsh is a beautiful golf course located in the cranberry bogs of Plymouth MA, and was voted the #1 public golf value in Massachusetts by the 2008-2010 by the New England Golfguide, and best places to play by 2008/2009 Golf Digest (further information on the course is available at www.southersmarsh.com). They have had multiple super bowl commercials from previous year’s, which you can view on their website

The overall team results of the nine participating foursomes were the following:
1) Scott Brennan, Mike Potvin, Bob Sprowl, and Bob Winnett (6 under par)
2) Jay Bluestein, Lorraine Carli, Barry Perkins and Nancy Perkins (5 under par)
3) Chris Dubay, Ben Dubay, Eric Hohengasser and Paul McCann (4 under par)
4) Don Bliss, Gary Keith, Janet Mulligan and Tim Travers (1 under par)
5) Michael Grant, Frank Shirley, Shannon Grant, and Casey Grant (1 under par)
6) John Caufield, Dawn Cedrone and Brian Walsh (6 over par)
7) Hank Carlson, Rick Sterling, and Jeff Thompson (10 over par)
8) Eleni Dixon, Cherelle Flynn, Taylor Korytko and Danielle Pargoli (11 over par)

Similar to previous years, this event was held at Southers Marsh Golf Course in Plymouth, MA, amidst the rich cranberry bogs ready for fall harvest. This year’s event was later in the seasons than previous tournaments, and this allowed us to witness the harvest of the cranberry bogs during our golf play that causes them to become a sea of bright pink-purple cranberries. In the meantime there were plenty of smiles all around and lots of fun for all who attended, with of course some great golf skills on display.

The Brendan Grant Foundation serves as the host organization for this fundraising event. This is the 14th annual Brendan Grant Foundation Golf Tournament, and most of these tournaments have been held at Southers Marsh. This is, however, the fifteenth time the Brendan Grant Foundation has hosted golf, with the series not including a special one-off additional tournament held at the Belmont Country Club in 2001. The course certainly has its share of challenges, with plenty of golf balls finding their way into the cranberry bogs. After completing 18 holes everyone was able to relax and enjoy a barbeque lunch along with a raffle. Our heartfelt thanks go to all who participated or helped in some special way behind the scenes. We had lots of great raffle items this year, and a special thanks goes to all who provided prizes. We tip our hat to Lorraine Carli for her efforts organizing this year's successful event.

It was a fun day of golf for all involved, and the proceeds from this successful event go to benefit the various on-going initiatives of The Brendan Grant Foundation. Many thanks to all, and we're looking forward to another great round of golf next season!
