BELMONT - The eleventh annual Brendan Grant Scholarships were awarded at the Senior Student Assembly at Belmont High School in Belmont, MA on Friday, 1 June 2012. The latest recipients are class of 2012 graduating Seniors Christian Raymond, Erin Reilly, and Sami Baghdady.

2012 Scholarship RecipientsA single scholarship was awarded in 2002 and 2003, and in 2004 it was expanded to two annual scholarships. In 2008 the scholarships were expanded from two to three recipients for a college-bound Senior from the Belmont High School Varsity Baseball Team, Varsity Softball Team., and Varsity Wrestling Team. The team affiliations for each recipient are Christian Raymond representing baseball, Erin Reilly representing softball, and Sami Baghdady representing wrestling. In the fall of 2012, Christian will be attending Eckerd College, Erin will be attending Springfield College, and Sami will be attending Brown University. Sincere congratulations are extended to Christian, Erin, Sami and their families.

The Brendan Grant Scholarship has been established in memory of Brendan Grant, the accomplished 19-year old Belmont baseball player who was fatally injured in an outfield collision during a Senior Babe Ruth game in June 2001. The three annual scholarships provide assistance to a senior member of the Belmont High School varsity baseball, softball and wrestling teams who will be attending an institution of higher learning after graduation. The scholarship is intended to reward a player who possesses the same positive spirit and leadership skills for which Brendan was known.
