2007 BRENDAN GRANT SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED TO KELLY O'BRIEN AND
BRYAN WATKINS
BELMONT - The sixth annual Brendan Grant Scholarships were awarded at the
Senior Student
Assembly at Belmont High School in Belmont, MA on Friday, 25 May 2007.
This year's scholarship recipient representing the Belmont High School
Varsity Baseball and Softball teams are team Captains Kelly O'Brien and
Bryan Watkins. Sincere
congratulations are extended to Kelly and Bryan and their families.
While the 2007 Belmont High School softball team was coming off a mediocre
rebuilding season, the BHS baseball team has posted one of its best
records in decades. Independent from their respective team records,
each of this year's recipients have played an
important role in their team's success and have displayed outstanding leadership
skills. Kelly will be attending American International College
(Brendan's alma mater) in Springfield, MA to pursue physical therapy, and
Bryan will be attending Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, MA
in the environmental engineering program.
The Brendan Grant Scholarship has been established in
memory of Brendan Grant, the accomplished 19-year old Belmont baseball player who was
fatally injured in an outfield collision during a Senior Babe Ruth game in June
200l. The two annual scholarships provides assistance to a senior member of
both the Belmont High School
varsity baseball team and the Belmont High School varsity softball team who will be attending an institution of higher learning after
graduation. The scholarship is intended to reward a player who possesses the same positive
spirit and leadership skills for which Brendan was known. Click
here for more information about the scholarship and about past recipients.
All contributions are greatly appreciated, and can be mailed to "The
Brendan Grant Scholarship" P.O. Box 184, Belmont, MA 02478-4024
