2005 BRENDAN GRANT SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED TO KEVIN VONA

BELMONT - The fourth annual Brendan Grant Scholarships were awarded at the Senior Student Assembly at Belmont High School in Belmont, MA on Friday, 27 May 2005.  This year's scholarship recipient representing the Belmont High School Varsity Baseball team is team Captain Kevin Vona.  Sincere congratulations are extended to Kevin and his family.

Kevin is a graduating Belmont High School Senior who will be attending Bentley College in the fall of 2005. Kevin hopes to play baseball for the Bentley baseball team, which now has a marvelous new baseball facility and is a competitive team in the Northeast-10 League.  This is the same league that Brendan Grant played in while a member of the American International College team in the spring of 2001.

The 2005 Belmont High School baseball team has had a very successful season, and Kevin played an important role in their success.  As one of the baseball team Captains, he has helped lead the team to the playoff's for the third straight year.  Kevin is an all-around contributor, and is a three sport athlete who was also a team captain for the also successful Belmont Hockey team, where he has earned all Middlesex league honors.

The Brendan Grant Scholarship  has been established in memory of Brendan Grant, the accomplished 19-year old Belmont baseball player who was fatally injured  in an outfield collision during a Senior Babe Ruth game in June 200l. The two annual scholarships provides assistance to a senior member of both the Belmont High School varsity baseball team and the Belmont High School varsity softball team who will be attending an institution of higher learning after graduation. The scholarship is intended to reward a player who possesses the same positive spirit and leadership skills for which Brendan was known.  Click here for more information about the scholarship and about past recipients.

All contributions are greatly appreciated, and can be mailed to "The Brendan Grant Scholarship" P.O. Box 184, Belmont, MA 02478-4024
