BELMONT - The second annual Brendan Grant Scholarship was awarded at the Senior Student Assembly at Belmont High School in Belmont, MA on Friday, 30 May 2003.  The recipient, Charlie Synnott, is a graduating Belmont High School Senior who will be attending Stonehill College in the fall of 2003. Sincere congratulations are extended to Charlie and his family.

Charlie is an intelligent, motivated, hard-working student with a very strong record across all the disciplines and a member of the award winning Symphonic Band for three years.  Athletics have always been very important to Charlie.  He has participated in varsity baseball and football fore three years.  A member of the town baseball league during the summer, he was selected to compete in the Lou Tompkins All-Star Tournament of Champions, in the Babe Ruth League.  He also enjoys playing golf, snowboarding, and skeet shooting.

Charlie reaches out to help others mainly through sports.  For three years he has served as a volunteer instructor in a spring baseball clinic, an assistant Little League coach, and a Doc Linsky Road Race volunteer.  Charlie has been an active supporter of the Brendan Grant Foundation.

The Brendan Grant Scholarship  has been established in memory of Brendan Grant, the accomplished 19-year old Belmont baseball player who was fatally injured  in an outfield collision during a Senior Babe Ruth game in June 200l. The scholarship provides assistance to a senior member of the Belmont High School varsity baseball team who will be attending an institution of higher learning after graduation. The scholarship is intended to reward a player who possesses the same positive spirit and leadership skills for which Brendan was known. All contributions are greatly appreciated, and can be mailed to "The Brendan Grant Scholarship" P.O. Box 184, Belmont, MA 02478-4024
